Another revolutionary achievement of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. A feasibility study for the reconstruction of the Upper Swat Canal System has recently been approved by the 15th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party. The project will benefit the people of Malakand, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera and Charsadda districts. The existing canal system now irrigates 276,000 acres of land at a discharge of 1800 cusecs, while 315,000 acres of land will be irrigated at a discharge of 2400 cusecs. Reconstruction will increase crop yields, facilitate local farmers and create thousands of jobs.
