Press Release: 9th PDWP held on 22nd October 2020

The 9th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Shakeel Qadir Khan, the Additional Chief Secretary P&D Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 22nd October, 2020. The meeting was attended by members of PDWP and concerned departments. The forum considered 50 schemes pertaining to E&SE, Food, Home, Excise, Information, Water, Industries, Multi-sectoral Development, Relief & Rehabilitation, Roads, Transport and Establishment & Administration sectors for the uplift of the province. The forum approved 39 schemes with an estimated cost of Rs. 48999.792. 1 scheme was cleared by PDWP and was recommended for approval of CDWP, while 10 schemes were deferred due to inadequate designs and were returned to their respective departments for rectification.

The 9th PDWP Meeting Approved Plans For The Promotion of Education in The Province

The 9th PDWP meeting approved plans for the promotion of education in the province. The meeting approved upgradation of 150 primary school into the middle schools and 100 middle school into the high schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a cost of about Rs. 6 billion. The meeting approved upgradation of 70 primary schools into the middle, 70 middle schools into the high and 70 high schools into higher secondary in the merged districts at a cost of Rs 6.8 billion.
100 new primary schools will also be constructed in the merged districts at a cost of Rs. 2 billion.
The meeting approved a plan to rebuild 75 schools completely destroyed by terrorism at a cost of Rs 1.4 billion in the merged districts. Under the project, 50 schools for boys and 25 schools for girls will be constructed, 325 partially destroyed schools will be rebuilt at a cost of Rs. 2.2 billion.
Reconstruction of 300 dilapidated primary, middle and high schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a cost of Rs 7.7 billion has also been approved. Under Peshawar School Development Plan, 277 schools will be constructed and repaired in Peshawar at a cost of Rs. 1 billion.

Review Meeting on Development Projects in the First Quarter of the Financial Year 2020-21 Part 2

A review meeting on development projects in the first quarter of the financial year 21-2020 was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the second part of the meeting held today in the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, progress on the development plans of the Department of Tourism and Sports, Information Technology, Urban Development, Municipalities, Industries, Labor, Board of Revenue, Finance for the financial year 21-2020. Departments were instructed on the use of funds released for the first quarter and monitoring reports of development projects for the first quarter, including the progress of the projects reviewed on PC-1. The meeting also reviewing the progress of the process in detail so as to make the best use of government resources and timely completion of projects.

ACS KP met with the World Bank Country Head Naji Benhasinne at P&D Department today.

The Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shakil Qadir Khan met with the World Bank Country Head Naji Benhasinne at Planning & Development Department today. Manager Operation World Bank Pakistan, Chief Economist P&DD & Chief Foreign Aid P&DD were also part of the meeting.
During the meeting various projects and areas of mutual interest came under discussion.
The meeting discussed Hydropower, Renewable Energy, Health, Education, SMEs, Start-ups, Tourism, Agriculture, Irrigation projects in detail.
The World Bank team was given presentation on the P&DD in-house established & managed PCFMS & GIS system. The main objective of PCFMS and GIS is helping decision makers by providing accurate and timely information about developmental schemes and helping them in making the right decisions.
The Additional Chief Secretary P&DD highlighted job creation, income generation and economic stimulation with better education/health facilities the immediate priority focus areas of the government.

10th PDWP Meeting held on 29th October 2020

The 10th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Shakeel Qadir Khan, the Additional Chief Secretary P&D Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 29th October, 2020. The meeting was attended by members of PDWP and concerned departments.
The forum considered 36 schemes pertaining to Energy & Power, Law & Justice, Local Government, Irrigation, Health, Agriculture, Road, Industries, DWSS, Urban Development, Sports & Tourism & Elementary and Secondary Education sectors for the uplift of the province. The forum approved 35 schemes with an estimated cost of Rs. 56033.481 million. One scheme was deferred due to inadequate designs and was returned to the respective department for rectification.

 Modification in Malakand-III for restoring its Annual Design Energy Target of 550 GWh. Cost of the Project Rs 778mn. HDF Funded. HDF Allocation 2020-21 Rs 400mn.

PRESS RELEASE – AIP Projects Approved in PDWP during October

PROJECTS WORTH PKR 49.145 BILLION APPROVED FOR ACCELERATED DEVELOPMENT IN THE MERGED AREAS

Wednesday, 4 November 2020: Chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary, Shakil Qadir Khan, the Planning and Development Department convened a record number of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) meetings in the month of October. According to a statement issued by the department here today, the high frequency of PDWP meetings is a direct outcome of the priority and urgency attached by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the accelerated development of the Merged Areas.

According to the details of the projects that are approved for implementation under the AIP 2020-21, 32 projects worth PKR 49.145 billion representing a wide range of development sectors got the official nod. Industries, education, transport, water, roads, food, energy, information and law are some of the sectors that secured project approvals during the four sessions of PDWP that were held in October. While the Additional Chief Secretary led the proceedings, representatives of the Planning and Development Department and the Implementing Provincial Departments participated in the month-long meetings.

In the higher education sector, three projects got approved including provision of scholarships for the students of Merged Areas, strengthening of the BS degree programme and provision of staff to existing colleges at a cost of PKR 2,107.06 million, PKR 402.62 million and PKR 1,223.11 million respectively. Elementary and secondary education sector also got seven projects approved at a total cost of PKR 13,626.01 million. These projects include establishment of 100 primary schools, construction of examination halls in schools, upgradation of 70 primary schools to middle level, upgradation of 70 middle schools to high level, upgradation of 70 high schools to higher secondary level and reconstruction of fully or partially damaged schools in the Merged Areas.

Improvement of the 42 kilometers Tanai-Gulkatch Road will cost PKR 762.57 million, construction of Kundiwan Weir in South Waziristan will be completed at a cost of PKR 1,234.42 million and the construction project of Bara Dam in Khyber district has been approved at a cost of PKR 463.99 million. The project for the establishment of a communication and social media cell for the publicity of AIP projects and mass awareness campaigns has also got the approval. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Emergency Services Academy (Rescue-1122) to be established at Shahkas area of Khyber district has also been approved and will cost PKR 3174.03 million.

In the law and justice sector, the much-awaited projects comprising the construction of 7 district judicial complexes and 25 tehsil judicial complexes have also been approved. The two high-impact projects will cost PKR 9.5 billion each, and will substantially contribute towards improved governance and rule of law in the Merged Areas.

Meeting on Strategy to Improve Quality of Work in Development Projects

The Department of Planning and Development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has decided to introduce a strategy to improve the quality of work in development projects. In order to rectify the existing shortcomings, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan in the P&D Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A comprehensive report was presented to the meeting by the party in which the quality of work in the development projects and the development work on the projects of various departments were reviewed in detail. The quality of work of all consultants has been reviewed in the past. Report 367 is based on development projects in which consultants have been hired. Performance of 52 consultants in 367 projects will be reviewed. It was decided at the meeting that the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate would check the procedure of selection of consultants. To improve the procedure of shortlisting of consultants, various suggestions were also considered in the meeting to improve the quality of work. The report of the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate will be shared with all the departments and a formal strategy will be issued after consultation with all the consultants in this regard. The initiative will enable better utilization of public and government resources and will eliminate wastage of resources.
