5 Days Training Course on Project Cycle Management Module 1 organized by Planning & Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of Governance & Policy Project concluded in Pakistan Planning and Management Institute Islamabad.
More than 20 Officers of Planning & Other relevant cadres of various line departments including Planning and Development Department have been trained to enhance their capacity in planning, management & project appraisal.
DG PCNA attended the closing ceremony and addressed the participants. He said that citizens placed a high priority on development projects who held accountable them to ensure public tax money be utilized on development more strategically and judiciously.
The training support to Planning Officers will help the govt to withstand the visible improvement in the lives of people and keep the people prosperous. He He expressed thanks to the trainers who imparted training to planning officers very professionally.

Steering Committee Meeting Reviewed 6 Projects of Agriculture Sector

A meeting of the Steering Committee on six different ongoing projects in the field of agriculture in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shakeel Qadir Khan. The meeting reviewed the progress on the projects. Additional Secretary, Chief Agriculture P&D, Project Directors and representatives of Agriculture Department attended.
Detailed progress on water storage in rainfed areas, command area development of small dams, plans to increase rice cultivation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, National Program for Improvement of Water Courses, increase in oil seed production and poverty alleviation through poultry were reviewed.
So far, 1282 schemes of agricultural engineering and soil water conservation have been completed under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rainwater harvesting project.
These projects include water ponds, check dams, water reservoirs, rehabilitation of springs, tracing, micro watersheds, conversion of tube wells to solar energy.
The meeting was informed that under NPIWC program, 158 water storage tanks, 216 water courses have been rehabilitated in the province this year and 410 farmers have been trained.
Under the plan to increase rice production in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, work has been done on 50 rice growing units in the year 2020-21. Under the project, 20 units of new technology such as use of modern technology, agronomics trails, DSR and AWDI have been introduced.
A plan to increase production of oilseeds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also underway. Under which work is underway on projects related to sunflower, canola, sesame seeds under which canola has been cultivated on 2500 acres in the year 2020-21.
Under the plan to create a command area for small dams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, construction of 8 water courses and alignment of 22 water courses have been done this year.
Briefing on the Poultry Poverty Alleviation Program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it was informed that 22,204 units have been distributed till January 2021 this year while a total of 57,937 units have been distributed among deserving families since 2019.

16th PDWP Held on 10th February 2021

The 16th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Shakeel Qadir Khan the Additional Chief Secretary P&D Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 10th February, 2021 through video link. The meeting was attended by members of PDWP and concerned departments. The forum considered 40 schemes pertaining to Higher Education, Auqaf, Hajj, & Minority Affairs, Social Welfare, Roads, Local Government, Urban Development, Sports & Tourism, Multi Sectoral Development, Industries, Health and Law & Justice sectors for the uplift of the province. The forum approved 38 schemes with an estimated cost of Rs. 16461.928 million. 02 schemes were deferred due to inadequate designs and were returned to the respective department for rectification.

Construction, Standardization, Upgradation and Repair of Old Schools Under SCRP Project

Under SCRP project, construction, standardization, upgradation and repair of old schools are being carried out in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The total cost of the project is Rs. 4.8 billion and a total of 269 schools are under construction in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 54 Higher Secondary Schools to be rebuilt in Bannu, Buner, DI Khan, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Swat, Tank to be completed by March next month. Construction and repair of 215 schools in Bannu, Haripur, Buner, Karak, Peshawar, Lower Dir, Swat, Kohat, Charsadda, Mardan and Swabi will be completed in June.

Review Meeting on BRT Peshawar

A review meeting on BRT chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shakeel Qadir Khan was held in P&D Department KP. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Peshawar, Secretary Transport, Trans Peshawar officials, P&D officials, traffic officials. Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit has highest daily ridership of 174,224 in February 2021. Opening of feeder routes is increasing the ridership of BRT. 30 more new buses will be launched from the third week of March. A total of 418 old vehicles will be scrapped. So far 40 old buses have been destroyed. Four of the old wagons will be renovated and used for tourism purposes.

Review Meeting on Agriculture and Livestock

A review meeting of Agriculture and Livestock was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary KP Shakeel Qadir Khan in Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the briefing special attention is being paid to agriculture and livestock sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government is ensuring quality food supply through research and subsidy in agriculture and livestock sector. The use of modern technology is being ensured to meet food needs in a timely manner. The government has introduced various schemes to support the indigenous population.

 Wheat wrappers and binders will be distributed under the ongoing wheat production plan in the agriculture sector. By January 2021, 2488 bags of potash and phosphorus have been subsidized.

Chip bud technology has been introduced under the project to increase sugarcane production. The technology saves 30% of water used for irrigation. New seeds and technology are also being introduced to increase sugarcane cultivation and production. Under the scheme, 2004 fertilizer bags have also been subsidized.

In order to increase meat production in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the government is also working on a scheme to provide livestock care to the local population. Vaccination of animals and the use of modern equipment are increasing meat production. In the year 21-2020, 4160 animals were registered. This year, the project has increased the meat production by 171 tons and has made a profit of Rs. 90 million so far.

Work is also underway on a project to save and care for calves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Under the project, calves are being vaccinated, de-worm and 9238 calves registered this year are being treated.
