Events
- Established in 1984 with the financial assistance of United Nations Office for Drug Control
- Aimed at coordination, planning, monitoring & evaluation of integrated rural areas development projects for substituting poppy cultivation
- UNODC withdrew support in 2001, Federal Government and International Narcotics & Law Enforcement Affairs (INL – P US Embassy) supported till June, 2008
- PDWP approved the PC-I of SDU in 2008 till 2013 with time extensions till June 2016
- Special Development Unit was renamed as Sustainable Development Unit in 2016 with adoption of SDGs
- SDU regularized under the KP Regularization Act 2018
- Implementation and coordination arm of P&DD for MSD Projects (ADP & Donor funded)
- Provision of technical backstopping to PMUs housed in SDU
- Focal point for Permanent Reconstruction Project (being executed through Special Forum) in Merged Areas
- Focal Entity on SDGs for coordination with Federal and Provincial Govt.
- Planning and designing of new initiatives for least developed areas
- Custodian of AIP for merged areas.
