“Unlocking the Potential of Carbon Markets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Opportunities, Challenges, andthe Regulatory Need Assessment”
A consultative workshop on “Unlocking the Potential of Carbon Markets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Regulatory Need Assessment” was held to explore the vast potential of carbon markets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organized the event, with the Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. Jakob Linulf, as the guest of honor.
Mrs. Sarah Rehman, Chief International Development Section, emphasized the urgent need for climate action in Pakistan, citing recent floods, health issues, food insecurity, and impacts on tourism. She highlighted the department’s commitment to addressing climate change through dedicated efforts, including a climate cell and collaboration with stakeholders for carbon markets.
The workshop aimed to:
– Discuss opportunities and challenges in unlocking the potential of carbon markets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
– Identify regulatory needs and gaps in the current framework
– Explore success stories and potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to tap into Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) in Pakistan
– Address current challenges, bottlenecks, and knowledge gaps around carbon trading
Participants gained valuable insights into the potential of carbon markets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the importance of addressing regulatory needs and challenges. The Ambassador praised the initiative, stressing the importance of collaboration in addressing the critical challenge of climate change. The workshop fostered a collaborative environment, bringing together stakeholders to discuss and explore opportunities in carbon markets.
