The participants of the Inland Study Tour of the 35th Senior Management Course, NIM Islamabad, visited the Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today. The Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Imtiaz Hussain Shah, enlightened the attendees about the development portfolio of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The participants also received a detailed presentation from Secretary Finance, Mr. Amer Sultan Tareen, about the financial matters of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, the Additional Secretary of the Home Department briefed them on relevant matters and procedures. The Chief Economist of Planning and Development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Arifullah Awan, also attended the session.
The meeting of the fifth project steering committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah. The plan includes activities like the improvement of the irrigation system and the development of modern technology for efficient use of water. The Additional Chief Secretary directed to speed up the project activities and timely achievement of the targets keeping in mind the growing importance of the agriculture sector in the context of water wastage prevention and climate change. Chief International Development Section Sara Rehman and other officials also attended the meeting.
On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Ali Amin Gandapur, a plan worth more than 9 billion rupees was approved to increase the effectiveness of the health facility program in the merged districts. In the special meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party, the plan of 9 billion Zayed was approved. The approval was given in a special meeting of PDWP under the chairmanship of Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah, Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Secretary Planning and Development Shahidullah Khan, Secretary C&W Dr. Asad Ali Khan, Chief Economist Arifullah Awan and other forum members and officials also participated in the meeting.

The objective of PWG is to focus on the themes associated with the building blocks and the road-mapping of the initiative and its continuity to identify, and address the challenges related with the development of a strategic foresight system at the district Chitral(Upper and Lower).
On the special instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, separate projects were approved in Bajaur and Khyber districts to secure the roads and bridges system in the merged districts for ease of travel. The projects will not only enable uninterrupted traffic flow but will also make the roads safer for common commuters. In the twenty-second session of the Provincial Development Working Party, new projects worth more than 20 crore rupees were approved. The approval was given in the meeting of PDWP under the chairmanship of Secretary Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Shahidullah Khan. Secretary Health Mr. Mahmood Aslam, Chief Economist Arifullah Awan and other forum members and officials also participated in the meeting. Approved projects include safety works for newly constructed bridge on Jamrud Bypass Road from Mathani Takhta Baig Road to Sar Kamar in Khyber District, rehabilitation of newly constructed WBM road from Murghan to Nika Ziarat via Murghan Khandau in Kurram District. Surfacing and ancillary works, additional safety works for Asil Targho Road in Bajaur District such as projects and widening the scope of other 6 projects.
The participants of the 35th Senior Management Course of National Institute of Management Lahore visited the Civil Secretariat Peshawar as part of their Inland Study Tour. The delegation was warmly received by Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary. They were provided a comprehensive briefing on the policies of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and other pertinent issues.
During the visit, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department, Imtiaz Hussain Shah, delivered an in-depth presentation on the province’s development and planning. The session was highly informative, offering the participants valuable insights into the strategic initiatives and planning processes of the provincial government.
At the conclusion of the meeting, shield was presented to the participants in recognition of their visit. Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary emphasized the significance of such training programs in the careers of government officials. He stated that these courses enhance the efficiency of officers in managing government affairs and aid them in making prompt, correct and impressive decisions.
The participants of the Senior Management Course were comprised officers from federal, provincial and various other cadres.
A review meeting of the ADB Portfolio was chaired by Secretary Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Shahidullah Khan. Mrs. Sarah Rehman, Chief of International Development Section, thoroughly briefed the Secretary on the physical and financial progress of all projects under the portfolio. The Secretary directed Project Directors to expedite activities, particularly in areas prone to snowfall, to meet the goals before the onset of harsh weather conditions.
The Progress Review Meeting of GLOF-II was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Arifullah Awan, Chief Economist Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting reviewed various activities under the project.
Chief IDS, Mrs. Sarah Rehman, and representatives from relevant line departments attended the meeting.
Chief Economist emphasized that the risk of Glacier Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) is higher during the monsoon season and directed that necessary safety measures be taken in advance. He also instructed the line departments to take necessary precautions in this regard.
Mr. Iqtidar ul Mulk, UNDP GLOF Project Coordinator, reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to the project.
A review meeting was held on the annual development program for the year 2023-2024 in the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Imtiaz Hussain Shah, Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department. The meeting was attended by Secretary P&D Mr. Shahidullah Khan, representatives of relevant departments and other officials. In the meeting, the progress on the projects of various departments included in the annual program was reviewed in detail.

Project Director Mr. Shahid Ali presented a comprehensive briefing on the project’s progress.
The Additional Chief Secretary stressed the need to accelerate the project’s activities in the merged districts, focusing on physical interventions on ground. The project aims to prioritize initiatives in agriculture, local government, and other sectors in the merged areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Additional Chief Secretary highlighted the project’s crucial role in developing the merged districts, which will significantly alleviate the problems faced by the local population and positively impact their lives. The meeting was attended by Local Government Secretary Mr. Muhammad Dawood Khan, local government representatives, and officials from relevant departments.
Given the project’s importance, the Additional Chief Secretary directed that regular review meetings be held to ensure its successful implementation, with the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa committed to playing a vital role in this regard.
