Peshawar, 4th January 2021: A total of 27 schemes have been approved at an estimated cost of PKR 75.19 billion by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the 14th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP). The Additional Chief Secretary, Shakil Qadir Khan, presided over the meeting which deliberated and approved schemes pertaining to different sectors including Health, Education, Multi-Sector Development, Roads, Agriculture, Water, Social Welfare, Relief & Rehabilitation, Urban Development, Population Welfare, Tourism & Sports.
The approved projects from todayâs PDWP include construction of bus terminals, beautification in selected urban arears, construction of slaughter houses, solar based tube-wells in District South Waziristan. The Phase II of the Peshawar Uplift Programme was also approved that includes construction of roads, streets and drains at Karkhano Market, Peshawar. The rehabilitation and improvement of Canal Patrol Road along Warsak Canal has also been approved that will improve the connectivity between Hayatabad and Northern Bypass.
The accelerated development of the Merged Areas is a top priority of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and several initiatives proposed under the Accelerated Implementation Programme have also been approved by the PDWP forum. Some of these AIP projects include low-cost water supply schemes in the Merged Areas, rural approach roads in all the Merged Districts, street pavement and construction of drains in different Districts/Subdivisions of the Merged Areas. Under the economic revitalization initiative for North Waziristan, the Phase II of compensation for lost businesses has been approved at a cost of PKR 6.63 billion.
Other notable projects that were approved following different rounds of discussions include rehabilitation of drainage systems, flood protection works, construction of bridges and installation of tube wells in the 3 tehsils of District Nowshera, including Pabbi, Jehangira and Nowshera. Similarly, extension of irrigation scheme in Tehsil Balambat of Dir Lower and construction of flood protection wall at downstream of Kochi Bridge in Lower Kurram have also been approved. Phase II of the Strengthening TB Control Programme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also be launched soon.
Establishment of 200 family welfare centers in the province, reopening of functional community schools in different areas and launching a sports talent identification and grooming activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been added to the approved projects portfolio. Infrastructure development projects including water supply schemes in Kulachi, Daraband, Kural, Chekhan and Zandani areas of Dera Ismail Khan and feasibility study of the Khandia Road in Upper Kohistan also made the approved projects list.
