6th PDWP 10th October 2024

On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, in the sixth session of the Provincial Development Working Party, the projects worth 3 billion were approved.
The approval was given in the PDWP meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Ikramullah Khan.
On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, olive and saffron projects were approved, which will provide new opportunities to farmers in the province and boost the local economy by increasing their income.
The meeting was attended by members of PDWP and officers of the concerned departments. The forum approved important projects related to agriculture, food, law and justice and science technology and information technology for the development of the province.
Among the approved projects are promotion of saffron and olive cultivation in districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, establishment of special game reserve in DI Khan and capacity building of kidney center, reconstruction of Liaquat Memorial Teaching Hospital for Women and Children, Kohat, Swat district. Feasibility study, design and construction for Chamtalai to Tarughai road and Chitral Garam Chashma to Kundujal 9 km road, GIS based property survey in Kohat and Bannu districts, Takhtikhel and Maureepkhel areas of Bannu Bakkakhel district. Taking off lining of existing civil channels from Tochi river for irrigation, establishment of satellite rescue-1122 station on major highways and motorways in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Reconstruction Program USAID, Rehman Shakarabad Dara village of District Kohat from Indus River. and integration of health service delivery with special focus on drinking water supply to adjoining villages, LHW, MNCH and nutrition programme, construction of 3000 tonne capacity food green warehouse in District Shangla, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Computerization of Land Records in 18 Districts, Upgradation of Urban M Mobile Property Tax Survey and UIP Tax System in Mardan District, Acquisition of Land for Construction of Buner District Judicial Complex, DI Khan Category D Hospital Paharpur Ko Category Upgrading of C Hospital, improvement of maternal and child health care facilities in flood-affected and nearby areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meeting With Mr. Juan Pablo of World Bank

A video link meeting was held with Mr. Juan Pablo, Global Director of Health, Nutrition, and Population (HNP) at the World Bank, and his team. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ikramullah Khan, Additional Chief Secretary of Planning and Development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Other attendees included Secretary Health Mr. Adeel Shah, Chief IDS Dr. Muhammad Ehtisham Ul Haq, and relevant officials.
The Additional Chief Secretary highlighted future interventions and priorities in health, focusing on:
– Primary Health Care
– School Health
– Maternal and Child Health
– Non-Communicable Diseases
– Pandemic Preparedness
The Additional Chief Secretary expressed gratitude to the World Bank team for their support.

7th PDWP Held on 8th November 2024

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is committed to the uniform development of the province. The PDWP meeting approved development projects worth more than 33 billion. The seventh meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ikramullah Khan. These projects were approved in light of the development vision of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur for the welfare of the province’s people. The meeting was attended by members of PDWP and officers of the concerned departments.

The forum approved important projects related to agriculture, food, health, education science and technology, and information technology for the development of the province.

Financial assistance and scholarships for minorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, construction of Eid houses and funeral homes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, purchase and construction/rehabilitation of land for cemeteries for minorities, improvement and maintenance of mosques and Darul Uloom/religious schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Hafiz Ji, the plan of building a mosque was approved.

Projects related to the education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also approved in the meeting, in the establishment of science labs and the upgradation of middle schools in the merged areas, the establishment and construction and upgradation of primary, middle, and high schools in Upper Swat were also approved. Establishment of primary schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upgradation of high schools to higher secondary level based on need, improvement in plans to upgrade primary schools to middle, middle schools to high level, feasibility study and establishment of Swat Model School, Upgradation of primary schools to middle level in merged districts, provision of funds for land compensation of Model School Mansehra are also among the approved projects. Land purchase for flood-damaged schools Funds for land compensation of GGHS Kamboh Peshawar Capacity building program for college faculty Establishment of government colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for students from annexed areas Provision of stipends and scholarships, strengthening of the planning cell of the Higher Education Department are also among the approved projects. Among the approved projects in the field of science and information technology are the establishment of Pilot Citizen Facilitation Center in Peshawar, the establishment of CFCs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Merged Areas Digital Connect, Digital Economy and Skill Center Feasibility Study.

Among the projects related to construction and development, the construction and feasibility study of the road from Karak Garand Siraj Khel to Khawra, provision of land compensation money in respect of Government Polytechnic Institute Mansehra, construction of rest house at Shangla Top in Shangla district, It includes repair and widening of Mardan Paharpur Canal Road, construction and rehabilitation of various roads in DI Khan, construction of roads and bridges as per requirement.

The approved projects related to the health sector include the setting up of Breast Cancer Screening Centers in the Northern and Southern regions of Pakhtunkhwa, the Trama Center at Lucky Marwat DHQ Hospital. Feasibility study and detailed design of detention dams in Swat Bala, construction of protective wall in POF Sultanpur Haveliyan district Abbottabad, and construction projects of Siti Kali Dam Bannu district were also approved in the PDWP meeting.

Computerization work will also be done in District Arms Licensing and security of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khyber Spinal Route. Concept notes for the construction of a 120 km transmission line for a hydropower project in Swat Valley, strengthening of the planning cell of the tourism and sports department, and agricultural development projects in Mohmand district were also approved in the meeting.

KP Highlights Climate Vulnerability and Opportunities at COP29

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan, showcased its climate resilience strategies and ambitious plans to harness carbon markets at a high-profile side event at COP29, held at the Pakistan Pavilion in Baku, Azerbaijan. The event brought together leading policymakers, climate finance experts, and international development partners to discuss KP’s unique challenges and opportunities in addressing climate change.
The event commenced with a detailed presentation by Additional Chief Secretary Ikramullah Khan, who highlighted KP’s acute climate vulnerabilities, including the increasing frequency of floods, landslides, and deforestation impacts. Despite these challenges, he emphasized the immense potential of the province to lead the way in carbon sequestration through innovative projects. The presentation underscored KP’s natural resources and its strategic focus on developing a climate finance pipeline to tap into global carbon markets.
Following this, Junaid Dyar, the Project Director for the Billion Tree Tsunami project, provided a comprehensive overview of KP’s afforestation initiatives. He outlined the project’s significant achievements in restoring degraded ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity, and creating opportunities for generating carbon credits. The audience was given a clear picture of how such large-scale projects can position KP as a leader in regional climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
The event also included a high-profile panel discussion. The panel discussion was moderated by Hasaan Khawar, the Team Leader for the FCDO-funded SEED Programme, which is actively supporting KP in developing a climate finance transactions pipeline. The panel included prominent speakers.
Shahid Zaman, Secretary Forest and Climate Change for KP elaborated how the province is planning to use its wide forest base to tap into the carbon markets. Nick Haslam, an international climate finance expert, outlined strategies for KP to secure global climate financing by building institutional capacity and engaging the private sector. Kashmali Khan, representing Adam Smith International, highlighted the importance of international collaborations and knowledge-sharing to drive innovation in KP’s climate initiatives.
Mr. Muzammil Aslam, Finance Advisor to the KP Government, emphasized the economic potential of climate initiatives, noting that the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project is expected to generate 10 million jobs across Pakistan, with KP playing a pivotal role in this achievement. He also highlighted KP’s success in leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) to implement renewable energy projects, eco-tourism zones, and afforestation programs and emphasized that KP will be co-investing with any interested international investor in scaling KP’s climate action efforts.
Faisal Amin Khan, the Climate Change Lead at the Chief Minister’s Office, gave concluding remarks and dedicated the event to the forest workers who lost their lives while fighting forest fires. He acknowledged their sacrifices as a testament to KP’s commitment to environmental conservation. Faisal Amin Khan also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to climate resilience, announcing that next year KP will present the results of the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project.
The event served as a powerful platform to highlight KP’s leadership in climate resilience and its efforts to align with international best practices. By addressing climate vulnerabilities while leveraging its immense natural resources, the province is positioning itself as a model for subnational governments globally.
As the event concluded, participants praised KP’s forward-thinking initiatives and committed to supporting its journey toward climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable economic growth.

Joint Review Meeting of UN Portfolio Held in Peshawar

The Joint Review Meeting of the UN portfolio was held today, under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Ikramullah Khan, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department, and Mr. Mohamed Yahya, the United Nations Resident Coordinator.
During the meeting, various UN projects in the region were reviewed, highlighting the significant contributions made towards development. Mr. Ikramullah Khan expressed appreciation for the immense support provided by the United Nations, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and reaffirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to welcoming and fostering such partnerships.
Mr. Yahya, UNRCO, also acknowledged the strong support extended by the provincial government, emphasizing the positive outcomes of the collaborative efforts between the UN and the government in advancing development initiatives.
The meeting served as an important platform to assess progress and ensure the continued success of UN-supported projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Outcomes: Transformative Pathways To Achieve The SDGs: Basic social Services, Gender equality and Women’s Empowerment, Climate Change and the Environment, Sustainable Inclusive Economic Growth & Decent Work, Governance were thoroughly discussed.
Relevant Secretaries, Chief Economist, representatives from EAD, sections of P&D and projects attended the meeting.
