Meeting on Affordable Housing Scheme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A meeting of High Level Steering Committee was held on Construction of Affordable Housing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting reviewed in detail the issues related to construction of small houses in the light of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of providing affordable housing. The meeting considered the issues related to eligible applicants for small houses and land for affordable houses in the districts.

The meeting was chaired by Shaukat Yousafzai, Provincial Minister for Labor, Culture and Human Rights. Minister for Finance and Health Timur Saleem Jhagra, Minister for Housing Dr. Amjad, Additional Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shehab Ali Shah, Secretary Housing and other officials participated in the meeting. Officials of the Housing Department and New Pakistan Housing Scheme Authority gave a detailed briefing to the meeting on the steps taken and progress in this regard.

Meeting on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resources Regulatory Authority

The first meeting of Water Resources Regulatory Authority was held in Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Shehab Ali Shah. The meeting was convened to ensure the protection and better management of water resources in the province. The meeting was attended by Secretary Irrigation Nizamuddin, Director General Nasir Ghafoor Khan and other members.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Mahmood Khan, while presiding over the meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resources Commission on August 25, 2021, to implement the policy decisions of the Commission in the province and to regulate all matters related to water resources Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resource Regulatory Authority was established.

In the first meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resource Regulatory Authority, DG Nasir Ghafoor Khan gave a detailed briefing to the meeting about the future course of action of the authority. The meeting approved the formulation of Rules Regulation for the Authority under which the Authority will conduct its affairs.

It is noteworthy that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the first province in the country to form a Water Resources Commission. The commission has been set up under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Act July 2020 and is headed by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Gender Equality Markers

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is committed to the advancement of women’s rights, women’s empowerment and gender mainstreaming across the province. The Provincial Government has adopted various measures for achieving equalization of opportunities for women and men. In this respect, the Social Protection and Gender Mainstreaming (SP & GM) Section of the Planning and Development Department Pakhtunkhwa has been mandated to provide a centralized coordination platform at provincial level for information, planning and strategic allocation of resources to gender mainstreaming, women’s empowerment and social protection of the vulnerable segments of society including women and girls.

Review Meeting on Progress of Development Projects in the First Quarter of Financial Year 2021-22

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan will be briefed on the progress of development projects in the first quarter of the financial year 22-2021. In this regard, under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shehab Ali Shah, A review meeting on the progress of development projects was held in the P&D department.

The meeting reviewed the progress on development projects of all the departments. The meeting was attended by the secretaries of the concerned departments and other senior officers.  Instructions were issued to the departments on the use of funds released for the first quarter and monitoring reports of development projects and other aspects, including the progress of the projects on PC-1.

As per the directions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan, the Department of Planning and Development is reviewing the progress of KP development projects as well as their progress in order to make the best use of government resources and timely completion of projects. Earlier, a weekly coordination meeting was held in the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary in which departmental affairs were reviewed.

Social Inclusion Markers

Development planning and poverty reduction are closely related. Though every development intervention broadly contributes to poverty reduction, a regular analysis of development projects and programs is imperative to ascertain how the development investment directly affects poor and vulnerable segments of society. The current COVID-19 economic and social crisis has further enhanced the need for directing development projects towards social protection and poverty reduction objectives.  The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is committed to social protection as part of its economic recovery plan. Therefore, Social Protection & Gender Mainstreaming Section has been established in P&D Department with a mandate to provide a centralised coordination platform to all social protection and poverty reduction related interventions in the province. The section is working for mainstreaming social protection and gender balance in development planning and has already developed the “Gender Equality Markers” for gender mainstreaming in the development process. The authorities at P&D Department are committed to aligning the development planning with poverty reduction approaches, and this document is a step towards this direction.

President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi visited Peshawar Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was briefed on the performance of government Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ongoing development activities in the province. Young people and women need guidance to benefit from kamyab jawan programs, and insaf rozgar schemes. Provincial governments should work with chambers of commerce and industry to educate youth about government loan schemes. There is a need to make it easier to do business in the provinces to attract investors. The development of the minerals and mining sector will enable the development of the people of the province and the provision of employment to the local population. Alternative dispute resolution system in newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will provide quick and cheap justice to the people of merged districts. Alternative dispute resolution system will help reduce burden on judiciary in former FATA districts, the president said.

The president was informed that KP government is focusing on development and improvement of newly integrated districts of former FATA and the administrative integration of former FATA districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been completed successfully. According to the briefing 901 projects worth Rs. 491 billion have been approved for integrated districts. The president was briefed on progress of projects to improve education, health, roads, energy and administrative infrastructure in integrated districts. The briefing further said that all ongoing development projects in the province will be completed on time.

The President highly appreciated the three-year performance of the KP government. The President commended the provincial government for holding regular consultative sessions for resolving the issues of the people of the merged districts. The President expressed satisfaction over the extension of Health Insaf Card facility to integrated districts for the provision of quality health services.
