Meeting on to Establish New Balakot City to Promote Tourism

Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over the meeting regarding the development of New Balakot City as a tourist destination. The government is building new tourist destinations in the mountains to boost tourism in the country. To achieve this end, prominent private investors in the tourism and hospitality sectors are being attracted to the public-private partnership mode. The Prime Minister directed the concerned federal and provincial authorities to take all necessary steps to provide full facilities to private investors in this regard. He directed the KP government to complete the project from IRA as a tourist destination. The Prime Minister further directed that cultivable lands should not be included in the plan to ensure food security in the region.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was informed that Feasibility Study of Rs. 19.5 billion project to develop New Balakot City as a tourist hub on Design-Build-Finance-Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) mode has been completed by NESPAK and KPMG. Under the proposed project, 63% of the total 6753 residential plots are allotted for allotment to local victims, while the remaining 2480 residential and 575 commercial plots besides 800 apartments will be auctioned to raise funds for the implementation of the project.

The Prime Minister was informed that the development of New Balakot City was primarily the responsibility of the KPK provincial government rather than the federal government. The KP government has already acquired land for this purpose. The project, to be completed under a public-private partnership (PPP), will include a youth hostel, a theme park, a camping ground and a three-star hotel. Upon completion, the project will not only reduce the pressure on existing tourist destinations, but will also generate more than Rs. 7 billion as a result of sharing expected revenue with the government.

Meeting on Chashma Right Bank Canal

The construction of the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) Lift Low Gravity Project will be a real game changer for the socio-economic development of a wide area in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PM Imran Khan said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting on integrated agriculture and development projects for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC). Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan also participated in the meeting.

Upon completion, the project will irrigate about 300,000 acres of barren land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This will not only ensure food security in the region, but also increase the export of agricultural products to the Middle East, which will be a source of foreign exchange for the country. The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to take effective steps to promote corporate farming in the area. This will not only increase the income of farmers in the area but also help in eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring good education for the local population, basic health facilities and other civic amenities. “We need to make full use of the vast natural resources available for the socio-economic development of our people,” PM added. The meeting also discussed alternative financial models for the construction of Chashma Right Bank Lift Canal (CRBC) mega development project.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Energy Muhammad Hamad Azhar, Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Provincial Ministers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Timur Saleem Jhagra, Mohibullah, Chairman National Highway Authority Khurram Agha, Chairman FBR Dr Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed and concerned officers.

Meeting on Affordable Housing Scheme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Meeting on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resources Regulatory Authority

The first meeting of Water Resources Regulatory Authority was held in Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Shehab Ali Shah. The meeting was convened to ensure the protection and better management of water resources in the province. The meeting was attended by Secretary Irrigation Nizamuddin, Director General Nasir Ghafoor Khan and other members.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Mahmood Khan, while presiding over the meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resources Commission on August 25, 2021, to implement the policy decisions of the Commission in the province and to regulate all matters related to water resources Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resource Regulatory Authority was established.

In the first meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Resource Regulatory Authority, DG Nasir Ghafoor Khan gave a detailed briefing to the meeting about the future course of action of the authority. The meeting approved the formulation of Rules Regulation for the Authority under which the Authority will conduct its affairs.

It is noteworthy that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the first province in the country to form a Water Resources Commission. The commission has been set up under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Water Act July 2020 and is headed by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Review Meeting on Progress of Development Projects in the First Quarter of Financial Year 2021-22

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan will be briefed on the progress of development projects in the first quarter of the financial year 22-2021. In this regard, under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shehab Ali Shah, A review meeting on the progress of development projects was held in the P&D department.

The meeting reviewed the progress on development projects of all the departments. The meeting was attended by the secretaries of the concerned departments and other senior officers.  Instructions were issued to the departments on the use of funds released for the first quarter and monitoring reports of development projects and other aspects, including the progress of the projects on PC-1.

As per the directions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan, the Department of Planning and Development is reviewing the progress of KP development projects as well as their progress in order to make the best use of government resources and timely completion of projects. Earlier, a weekly coordination meeting was held in the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary in which departmental affairs were reviewed.

The development of the minerals and mining sector will enable the development of the people of the province and the provision of employment to the local population. Alternative dispute resolution system in newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will provide quick and cheap justice to the people of merged districts. Alternative dispute resolution system will help reduce burden on judiciary in former FATA districts, the president said.

The president was informed that KP government is focusing on development and improvement of newly integrated districts of former FATA and the administrative integration of former FATA districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been completed successfully. According to the briefing 901 projects worth Rs. 491 billion have been approved for integrated districts. The president was briefed on progress of projects to improve education, health, roads, energy and administrative infrastructure in integrated districts. The briefing further said that all ongoing development projects in the province will be completed on time.

The President highly appreciated the three-year performance of the KP government. The President commended the provincial government for holding regular consultative sessions for resolving the issues of the people of the merged districts. The President expressed satisfaction over the extension of Health Insaf Card facility to integrated districts for the provision of quality health services.
