The Project Steering Committee Meeting of Pehur High Level Canal Extension Project was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. Ikramullah Khan. Various activities and components of the project were discussed, and the chair was briefed on the progress made so far.
The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recently unveiled its first-ever Social Protection Policy during a dissemination event organized to promote the policy. The objective of this policy is to extend social protection to poor and vulnerable individuals in the province, providing them with social safety nets to overcome the adverse effects of poverty, unemployment, and marginalization.
Adil Saeed Safi, the Director General (DG) of the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU), Planning & Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of the Social Protection Policy, especially in light of the recent increase in poverty and vulnerability due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The policy aims to address traditional challenges such as poverty, low human capital, gender gaps, unemployment, and marginalization that have persisted and even intensified despite the government’s increased focus on poverty alleviation through economic growth and redistribution.
Safi expressed his gratitude to FCDO/SNG, GIZ, and ILO for their assistance throughout the process of developing the policy.
The 5th Project Steering Committee Meeting for the Regional Infrastructure Fund was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Ikramullah Khan. Representatives from concerned departments and KfW (via video link) attended the meeting, where various interventions under the project were discussed in detail. These interventions include drinking water supply schemes, sewerage and drainage systems, roads, and suspension bridges in Districts Nowshehra and Haripur. During the meeting, the importance of meeting deadlines for each activity and following targets diligently was emphasized, and the team was directed to do so.
The 63rd Internal Review meeting with all chief of sections and attached units held under chairmanship of Secretary, Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Shah Mahmood Khan. Tracking of High Priority Projects, Updates on Master Planning and progress on PPP Projects were thoroughly discussed.
The Foreign Portfolio Review Meeting was held at the Planning and Development Department, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Ikramullah Khan. The meeting was attended by the Country Director of the World Bank, Mr. Najy Benhassine(via video link), the Operations Manager of the World Bank, Mr. Gailius Draugelis, Syed Usman Javed, Coordinator of MDTF, and representatives from other departments.
During the meeting, the progress of ongoing projects was jointly reviewed, and an action plan was agreed upon for new projects. The Additional Chief Secretary directed project directors to expedite the implementation of ongoing projects to achieve their objectives.
A deliberative dialogue on climate resilient infrastructure financing was organized by Planning & Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in facilitation from MAGP-UNDP. The forum discussed: type of financing facility, range of products to be offered and delineating types of projects to be funded, degree and mode of government involvement and how to forestall the risk of undue interference. The forum included government stakeholders & private sector representatives with investment, infrastructure & legal backgrounds.
The third meeting of the project steering committee for the Pakistan Community Support Project was held under the chairmanship of Secretary of the Planning and Development Department, Mr. Shah Mahmood Khan. During the meeting, activities related to the project: Community Outreach and Communication, Community Mobilization and Capacity Building, and Community Infrastructure Schemes, were discussed in detail.
Today, a delegation from the Sub-National Governance (SNG) programme had a meeting with the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary. The team presented a detailed overview of the programme’s activities, interventions, and technical assistance provided to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting was also attended by the Additional Chief Secretary and relevant secretaries. Both sides expressed their commitment to continued collaboration to enhance public service delivery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through the SNG programme’s interventions.
Newly appointed Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Muhammad Zubair Asghar Qureshi and Secretary Planning and Development Department Mr. Khayyam Hasan Khan took charge. In honor of outgoing Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Ikramullah Khan and Secretary Planning and Development Department Mr. Shah Mehmood Khan, a farewell meeting was held in the Department of Planning and Development in which the officers of the department participated. In the meeting, the services of both the officers for the department were appreciated and good wishes were expressed for them.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is implementing an online e-Procurement system to increase transparency and accountability in public procurement and contract awards. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Procurement Regulatory Authority developed the system with support from USAID, and it aims to improve governance. Recently, the system underwent a pilot project/test run at the Chief Secretary Office in Peshawar. Today, the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary, chaired a meeting to review the e-Procurement system’s progress.
