The Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Imdadullah Bosal, chaired a meeting to discuss the development priorities of the province, including merged districts. The meeting was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Planning and Development Department, Secretary Finance, and other relevant officials. The meeting included a comprehensive briefing on the current status of the province’s development portfolio.
The Provincial Steering Committee Meeting for the European Union Funded Projects, which aims to promote the rule of law and enhance the criminal justice system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held under the chairmanship of Secretary Planning and Development Department, Mr. Shah Mahmood Khan. Mr. Sven Ruesch, Acting Head of Cooperation, European Union, Mr. Knut Ostby, Resident Representative, UNDP, Ms. Meriem El Harouchi, First Secretary, Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan, Ms. Sharmela Rasool, Country Head, UN Women, Ms. Zainab Qaisar Khan, Head of Sub Office Peshawar, UN Women, Mr. Sher Khan, Rule of Law Expert, UN Women, Mr. Waqas Shah, Criminal Justice and ROL Coordinator, UNODC, Ms. Chamila Hemathagamma, Programme Manager Rule of Law, UNDP, Mr. Arshid Jan, Deputy Programme Manager Rule of Law, UNDP and Ms. Caitlin Chittenden, Rule of Law Specialist, UNDP attended the meeting. The progress made in strengthening the provincial rule of law coordination mechanisms and creating gender-responsive environments was discussed, with the goal of improving justice and security services delivery while upholding constitutional safeguards and human rights standards. The Secretary expressed gratitude to EU and UN for their continued partnership in supporting local development, gender empowerment, and rule of law initiatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Provincial Census Coordination Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Imdadullah Bosal, convened a meeting to review the ongoing 7th Housing and Population Census.
The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of effective coordination among all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the census exercise. In order to facilitate the public, the date of self-enumeration has been extended until March 10th, 2023.
A joint review meeting of foreign funded projects and pipeline projects of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held under the co-chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs Division (EAD), Dr. Kazim Niaz and Additional Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Ikramullah Khan at Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Secretaries of line departments, representatives of World Bank and Asian Development Bank attended the meeting.
Different activities under the projects, overall progress and status of pipeline projects were reviewed. It was instructed to expedite the ongoing projects and also execution process of committed pipeline projects.
USAID Pakistan funded UNDP’s Planning Support Unit (PSU) and the Planning and Development Department’s Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate collaborated to provide result-based management training workshops to 123 planning staff members from various departments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Secretary of Planning and Development Department, Mr. Shah Mahmood Khan inaugurated third session of these training workshops, which are intended to enhance project planning, implementation and monitoring.
A delegation from the UNDP’s Merged Areas Governance Programme, consisting of Programme Manager Ms. Raluca Eddon, Chief Strategic Advisor Mr. Javed Iqbal Khan, Lead Economic Advisor Mr. Musharraf Rasool Cyan, met with the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Imdad Ullah Bosal, to discuss the ongoing activities and interventions of the Programme. The Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, and Secretary Local Government also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to sustaining collaboration towards enhancing public welfare in merged districts through the Programme’s interventions.
