Review Meeting on Peshawar Northern Bypass

A review meeting on the Peshawar Northern Bypass project chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shakeel Qadir Khan was held in the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting was informed that Package 1 of the project is complete and traffic is flowing on it. The meeting directed to expedite work on the remaining parts of the project and also to settle land-related issues expeditiously. The Peshawar Northern Bypass project is very important in solving traffic problems in the city. Completion of the project will make it easier to reach Regi Lalma, Hayatabad, and Khyber Pass Highway in the future.

Meeting on The 3rd Quarter of Annual Development Programme

An important meeting regarding the Provincial Annual Development Program was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan at the Civil Secretariat Peshawar on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed in detail the progress on the 3rd quarter of the Provincial Annual Development Program, the status of utilization of funds allocated and released for projects, monitoring and evaluation reports of development projects, projects nearing completion as well as proposed projects to be included in the new development program.

Apart from Chief Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz and Additional Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir, administrative secretaries of concerned departments also attended the meeting. Briefing about the release and utilization of development funds for the third quarter of the annual development program, it was informed that Rs. 124 billion had been released for the third quarter of the provincial annual development program and 62% of the released funds have been spent so far. The meeting was informed that 51% of the funds released for the second quarter of the annual development program had been spent. Similarly, the utilization rate of funds has improved by 11% in the third quarter, which is satisfactory.

The meeting also reviewed the funds allocated for the development projects included in the annual development program during the last five years, the funds released, and the situation of their utilization. It was informed that during the last five years, the rate of disbursement and utilization of development funds has been the highest in the financial years 2019-20 and 2020-21. In the third quarter of the current annual development program, the meeting was informed that during the third quarter, 11 projects have been approved by the Central Development Working Party, 252 by the Provincial Development Working Party, and 112 by the Departmental Development Working Party.

The meeting was informed about the projects nearing completion that out of a total of 800 development projects, 621 projects are in the process of completion which will be completed by the end of this financial year. Regarding the monitoring and evaluation reports on development projects during the current financial year, it was informed that so far 2246 monitoring reports have been prepared and sent to the concerned departments out of which 1586 reports have also received feedback from the departments.

The meeting was briefed on the progress of the third quarter of the annual development program in terms of individual performance in various sectors. It was informed that the Department of Industry came first with 100% utilization of released funds, followed by the Department of Energy with 82%. The Department of Transport came in third with 79 percent.

The meeting was also apprised of the details of funds released for development projects of various departments for the third quarter and it was informed that Rs 10.43 billion for primary and secondary education projects, Rs 6.8 billion for higher education department projects, Rs 15 billion was released for health sector projects, Rs 20 billion for road projects, Rs 11 billion for irrigation projects, Rs 5.7 billion for tourism and sports and a total of Rs 124 billion for development projects. The meeting was also briefed on the new projects proposed by the departments for inclusion in the next annual development program.

In his address to the meeting, the Chief Minister termed the utilization rate of development funds released during the third quarter as satisfactory and stressed the need to further improve it so that 100 percent utilization of development funds released by the end of the financial year might be assured. Calling the timely completion of development projects a top priority of his government, he directed the heads of all departments to ensure progress on development projects as per the timelines so as to ensure their timely completion and the people without any delay take benefits of these projects. He directed the Administrative Secretaries to hold regular meetings to review the progress on development projects under their respective departments and take necessary steps to remove the obstacles in the way of progress on these development projects in a timely manner. The Chief Minister directed the officials of the Health and Industry Department to prepare and approve the plan for setting up at least two oxygen plants in the province as soon as possible for uninterrupted supply of oxygen to Corona patients in the hospitals in view of the present situation of Corona.

KP Government Prepared Special Development Package for Zakhakhel Bazaar

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has prepared a special development package for the backward Zakhakhel Bazaar and adjoining areas of the Khyber District. The cost of the development package is Rs 2.2 billion and its duration will be three years. The development package has been designed keeping in view the backwardness of the region. Work will be done on projects in seven areas Municipalities, Public Health Engineering, Irrigation, Agriculture, Skill Development, Livestock, and Forestry.

The main objective of the development package is to introduce projects that will provide faster employment and economic growth. The project will create business opportunities in the region. The special development package has been formulated in consultation with the government and the community. The project includes business promotion in the area, clean drinking water supply projects, irrigation projects, rehabilitation of agriculture, training to start employment for youth, scholarship programs, promotion of livestock, forest care projects.

Notable projects under the special development package include Rs 4.6 crore for 10 clean water supply projects, Rs 17 crore for 42 solar pressure pumps, Rs 20 million for rehabilitation of old clean water supply projects, Rs 80 million has been earmarked for 13 irrigation channel projects, Rs 160 million for 22 flood protection projects, Rs 160 million for 15 water storage ponds and Rs 21 crore for construction of 21 solar tube wells.

In the agriculture sector, work will be done on projects to increase crop production, capacity building of farmers and promotion of the use of modern technology at a cost of Rs. 56 crore. Skill development projects at a cost of Rs. 20 crore will be introduced to enhance the business and technical capacity of the youth which will benefit 1000 youth. Livestock projects at a cost of Rs. 17 crore in which supply of cattle to the residents of the area, promotion of poultry, vaccination of cattle will be worked on. Under the special development package, Rs. 4 crores have been set aside for the supply of plants and nurseries to the community. Initially, Rs. 2 crore has been earmarked for providing internships to the youth of the area. Once the project is finalized, it will be funded by the Accelerated Development Program for the Tribal Districts.

Secretary P&D Amir Sultan Tareen visited Ramzan Insaf Sasta Bazaar in Karak Bazaar. Secretary P&D inspected various stalls set up in Ramzan Sasta Bazaar, reviewed the prices and appreciated the performance of the district administration.

While briefing Secretary P&D the Deputy Commissioner Karak said that in the light of special instructions issued by the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to ensure the supply of food items to the citizens of Karak on government tariffs, in collaboration with TMA Karak and District Food Officer Karak, Ramadan Cheap Bazaar has been set up with the aim of providing affordable items to the citizens during the holy month of Ramadan. The district administration is taking steps to provide maximum relief to the citizens during the holy month of Ramadan so that the poor can also join in the joys of Ramadan. He said that the district administration is using all available resources to provide cheap food items to the citizens in Ramadan Sasta Bazaar and an increase in the prices of food items will not be tolerated in this month under any circumstances. He further said that traders of Ramzan Sasta Bazaar would buy vegetables and fruits from the market without any commission and there would be no role of middlemen in them. However, the sale of vegetables and fruits at government rates would be monitored by the district administration and facilities to traders will be provided by TMA.

Finalization of Annual Development Programme 2021-22

The P&D Department has started preparations to finalize the annual development program of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the financial year 2021-22. In this regard, a meeting was held in the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shakeel Qadir Khan. The meeting decided to finalize the annual development program for the financial year 2021-22. In the first week of May, the line departments will be consulted again regarding the annual development program, after which the department will conduct its internal consultation on the annual development program before Eid. After Eid, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be briefed on the annual development program for the new financial year. Priority will be given to the completion of ongoing projects in the year 2021-22.

Bank of Khyber Earns Rs. 439 Million PAT for The 1st Quarter Ended March 31st 2021

BOK posted Rs.439 million profit after tax (PAT) for the 1st quarter ended March 31st 2021. This was informed during 166th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bank held on 26 April, 2021 in Peshawar. The third wave of COVID-19 continues to take toll on economies around the world. Although worldwide vaccination is underway, the pandemic has yet to be contained. Pakistan has been hit particularly hard by the third wave and the government is taking various measures in the health sector and allowing certain incentives and relaxations to ease difficult business conditions.
Despite non conducive business environment, the Bank of Khyber has demonstrated good financial performance. An upward trajectory has been witnessed in all the major financial indicators which is the result of proactive and prudent approach in handling fallout of the pandemic.
For the quarter ended March 31, 2021, the Bank posted Rs.653 million profit before tax whereas profit after tax with decrease of 20% stood at Rs.439 million as compared to Rs.548 million for the same period of 2020.
With slight increase from the year end 2020, deposits and advances stood at Rs.214,984 million and Rs.142,888 million respectively. Investments with a minor increase stood at Rs.117,164 million.
At the end of the quarter under review, the Bank was operating with 180 branches, 11 sub-branches and 7 permanent booths throughout the country wherein 92 branches were working as dedicated Islamic Banking Branches.
