Flood Control Room is Established in PDMA Peshawar

In light of the instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr Mahmood Khan, a flood control room was established in the PDMA office in Peshawar comprising various provincial departments. This flood control room will collect and provide timely and accurate information related to the flood as per the notification issued by the provincial government.
According to the control, on the instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan, more relief materials have been sent to the flood-affected districts of Charsadda, Malakand, Peshawar, Swat, DI Khan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Tank, Kohistan Lower, and Dir Upper. Among these relief supplies, 2700 tents, 2700 meters, 1000 plastic mats, 2000 hajjen cats, 1700 jerry cans, 700 buckets, 1300 quilts, 2700 tarpaulin sheets, 1400 mosquito nets, 300 gas cylinders and other items are included. And in view of the flood situation, the weekly leave of PDMA employees has been cancelled and the district administration and related organizations are engaged in relief activities. PDMA is continuously monitoring the situation. Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr Shahab Ali Shah also visited the flood control room and reviewed the current flood situation and issued instructions to the relevant departments. Review of Flood Control Measures

Development Partners Conference on Flood Protection and Rehabilitation Activities

On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Mehmood Khan, a Development Partners Conference was held in the Department of Planning and Development, Finance Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Taimur Jhagra, Additional Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah presided
The representatives of the development partners participated in the meeting. Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra talked about the government initiatives, flood effects and rehabilitation activities and the needs arising after the flood situation.
The Additional Chief Secretary emphasized on relief activities and rehabilitation to the affected people in remote areas apart from settled districts while directing to take measures on emergency basis.
Chief Economist Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Ali Asghar gave a detailed briefing regarding flood damage, relief and rehabilitation activities in the entire province. In the meeting, it was decided to create an efficient and robust system with all stakeholders under the supervision of PDMA for relief and rehabilitation measures. Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) Final

The Social Protection & Gender Mainstreaming (SP&GM) Section of Planning & Development
(P&D) Department as a centralized coordination platform for providing technical assistance to the
government counterparts is mandated to integrate gender equality and social protection in
planning and development and promote its implementation.
Formidable task assigned to SP&GM calls for robust and continuous attempt to keep all the
relevant stakeholders informed, engaged and motivated to contribute their part for achieving a
common goal of Social Protection & Gender Mainstreaming.
The following document is an Inclusive Stakeholder Engagement Plan developed to support
SP&GM section in their efforts to engage stakeholders in the light of their role, level of
involvement and interest towards gender equality.
This Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) identifies and graphically classifies stakeholders for
SP&GM to prioritize their engagement in consonance with category each stakeholder falls in. The
SEP classified SP&GM stakeholders into four categories that are leading, supportive, neutral and
unaware.
It also suggests to engage these stakeholders for achieving prioritized outcomes set in
communication strategy. The SEP present outcomes in harmony with stakeholders’ role and
interest to encourage SP&GM rolling out communications accordingly.
SEP also proposed a five-year stakeholders engagement plan to bring in stakeholders on board
for relevant activities and facilitating the achievement of organizational milestones.
With all the relevant information regarding stakeholders, SEP will assist in understanding the
context, stakeholders’ priorities and communication needs to address different groups of
stakeholders. The SEP and Communication Strategy are complementary and will serve to
meaningfully engage SP&GM stakeholders.

P&D Department GIS Hub is Assisting the Government in Flood-Related Activities

On the instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr Mehmood Khan, the GIS Hub of the Planning and Development Department conducted satellite mapping of the flood-affected areas across the province to assist the district administration and other institutions in recovery activities after the recent floods. The areas assigned on the map included affected bridges, roads, schools, and the name and locations of the relief camps. The GIS Hub has also deployed its experts in the flood control room to assist in monitoring the flood and relief activities.

CM KP Review Meeting Over FLood Damages And Government Flood Related Activities

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan has directed the relevant authorities to identify flood-prone areas across the province and to plan the construction of protective embankments and flood protection walls etc. . He said that the government is trying to minimize the losses in any future flood situation. He was presiding over a meeting held to review the damage caused by the floods on Thursday. Provincial Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Minister for Labor Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Minister for Relief Iqbal Wazir, Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Chief Secretary Shehzad Bangash, Additional Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Chief Minister Principal Secretary Amjad Ali Khan and Finance Secretary besides other related departments’ administrative secretaries and senior officials participated in the meeting.

Appreciating the role of political leaders, district administration, PDMA, and rescue and relief workers in the recent flood situation, the Chief Minister said that all the government machinery has done its utmost to save the people from the ravages of flood and to provide relief to them. They have shown great responsibility and their role is commendable. The performance of the provincial government institutions has been appreciated at all levels. On this occasion, the Chief Minister has directed the district administration to ensure transparency in the overall process of distribution of relief items and clarified that financial assistance and other relief items should be distributed only to the flood victims and the rightful should get their rights. No negligence or omission will be tolerated in this regard. Earlier, while giving a briefing to the Chief Minister, it was informed that chlorination tablets and mosquito nets are being provided to the victims keeping in mind the fear of possible epidemics in the affected districts. Similarly, the victims who were evicted from their homes due to floods are being ensured the supply of clean drinking water through water tankers. The meeting was informed that according to the initial estimate of the losses, the agriculture sector has suffered a loss of billions of rupees, and further assessment is going on in different districts, until the completion of which the estimate of the loss may increase further. Similarly, according to the preliminary assessment, a total of 1450 km long roads have been affected by floods. On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah gave a detailed briefing to the participants regarding the initial estimate of the damage to houses, roads, bridges, schools, health facilities, agriculture, irrigation and other sectors in addition to the loss of life and property in various districts. . He said that the data of losses is being collected by the district administration. An online portal has been developed for this purpose, the details of which can be viewed online. The participants were informed that the timely evacuation of a total of 364,000 people was made possible in various districts, which helped to reduce the loss of lives to a considerable extent. Similarly, the provincial government’s proactive measures, good governance, anti-encroachment campaign, protective dams and floods. Due to the construction of protection walls, losses were also reduced, otherwise, the losses would have increased manifold. The meeting was further informed that the presence of doctors and related staff has been ensured in all the medical centres to meet the medical needs of the people displaced from their homes due to the flood. While informing about the nature of the flood situation in various districts, it was said that the districts of Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Charsadda, DI Khan and Tank have been badly affected by the floods, while the districts of Upper and Lower Chitral, and Mansehra are relatively less affected. According to the preliminary assessment, more than six lakh people have been displaced in the province due to floods. The Chief Minister on the occasion directed to streamline the aid received from donors and social organizations/personalities to ensure efficient and equitable distribution of relief items and packages. The Chief Minister further said that the compensation will be paid to the flood victims as per the revised rates.

2nd Special PDWP Meeting Held on 7th September 2022

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government took a major step toward the rehabilitation process in flood-affected areas by approving development projects for flood-affected areas. In a special meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party, projects worth 15 billion were approved. The meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr Shahab Ali Shah. PDWP members and concerned departments participated in the meeting. The forum approved seven projects related to C&W, Irrigation, and Public Health Engineering for the improvement of the province.

On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr Mahmood Khan, several projects were approved for the restoration of drainage, irrigation, clean drinking water, roads and bridges in the flood-affected areas in the province where work would be started on the emergency basis.

The approved projects include flood-affected infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, drainage and irrigation systems, water supply, restoration of flood-damaged water supply schemes of the Department of Public Health Engineering, the infrastructure of flood-damaged roads and bridges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and KHA’s projects include road and bridge maintenance etc.
