KP Government Releases Rs 25.5 Billion For Public Welfare Sectors

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government releases Rs 25.5 billion for public welfare sectors in the fourth quarter of the Annual Development Program 2025-26
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the release of Rs 25 billion 529.121 billion in development funds for the fourth quarter for ongoing projects under the Annual Development Program 2025-26.
In these ongoing funds, priority has been given to those sectors that are directly related to public welfare and service provision. Significant amounts have been allocated for the health, education, drinking water and sanitation, roads, irrigation and water management, agriculture and local government sectors to ensure uninterrupted completion of essential services and development projects.
Under the health sector, Rs 1.40 billion has been released for hospitals, primary health centers and ongoing health programs. Rs 1.13 billion has been allocated for the drinking water and sanitation sector to expand water supply and sanitation projects in urban and rural areas. In the education sector, Rs 696.3 million has been released for primary and secondary education and Rs 1.105.6 billion for higher education to improve the infrastructure and educational facilities of schools, colleges and universities.
Rs 3.742.6 billion has been released for the roads sector to improve connectivity and accessibility, which is the largest amount in this tranche. Rs 3.734.4 billion has been given to the water sector for irrigation, flood protection and water management projects. Rs 589.1 million has been allocated for the agriculture sector and Rs 1.776.5 billion for local governments to further improve the rural economy and local government services.
Planning and Development Department officials say that the purpose of releasing the funds is to accelerate the completion of development projects and improve the delivery of public services before the end of the financial year. All departments have been directed to expedite development works and ensure financial discipline.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is determined to ensure that the impacts of development projects are directly transferred to the people.

Government Strengthens Partnership With World Bank in Human Development

A high-level virtual meeting was held between the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the World Bank to discuss strategic priorities and avenues for enhanced collaboration in the human development sector.
The meeting was attended by Ms. Mamta Murthi, Vice President for the People Vice Presidency at the World Bank, Mr. Kazim Niaz, Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Shahab Ali Shah, Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Department Mr. Islam Zaib, and the Secretaries of Planning & Development, Industries, Elementary & Secondary Education, and Health.
Discussions focused on key development priorities, including strengthening primary healthcare systems, reducing stunting, improving access to quality health services in remote areas, and accelerating the digitization of healthcare delivery. In the education sector, emphasis was placed on enhancing foundational learning outcomes and expanding technical and vocational education to equip youth with market-relevant skills.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of job creation through private sector engagement and collaborative development initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation to accelerate human development outcomes and improve service delivery across the province.
It was agreed that a series of follow-up engagements between the World Bank and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be undertaken to translate these priorities into actionable and results-oriented interventions.

21st PDWP Meeting Held on 4th June 2026

41 development projects worth over Rs56 billion approved for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 21st meeting of Provincial Development Working Party
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is committed to the uniform development of the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is implementing public interest projects under the Sustainable Development Plan.
On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, the projects for the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of communication roads in Bannu, Hazara, Malakand and Mardan divisions of the province have been formally approved. The construction of new blacktop roads will promote economic activities, improve traffic flow on roads constructed according to widening and modern standards, while passengers will be provided with the facility of safe travel. Short routes and alternative routes will also be created under the project, which will reduce the travel time and make the journey lasting hours shorter. These projects will play an important role in connecting the remote areas of Bannu, Hazara, Malakand and Mardan divisions with the mainstream of development.
The 21st meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department Mr. Islam Zeb. The meeting reviewed and approved 41 development projects in various sectors to accelerate development and improve the provision of public facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The approved projects include important projects in health, education, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, sports and governance. The population welfare includes establishment of 10 adolescent and reproductive health centers, establishment of Mother and Child Hospital in DI Khan in the health sector, health service delivery projects with special focus on MNCH, LHW, establishment of Paeds Hospital in Swat Kabal district under the Saudi Fund for Development, expansion of D-Talk and Insulin for Life, provision of SBA services and renovation of existing basic health centers in the merged districts, deployment of 100 specialists, doctors, EMOs, nurses and paramedics for the health facilities of the merged districts, establishment of an Independent Monitoring Unit in the Health Department and strengthening rehabilitation services for the physically challenged.
In the irrigation sector, flood protection projects, irrigation projects, check dams and canal patrol roads in central and southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and DI Khan were approved, and construction of Samari Payan Dam in Kohat district was approved. Projects for widening, rehabilitation and improvement of blacktop roads in Kurram Upper, Kurram Lower and Orakzai districts in Bannu, Hazara, Malakand and Mardan divisions were also approved. In addition, Havelian-Sajikot Road, Mansehra-Lasun Nawab Road, Shadman Road to Zarwar Khan Kot Ghwakha Laman, Anzar-Gorikhel to Ladha Road in South Waziristan, construction of RC bridges in Tank district and feasibility studies, design and construction of Kaki Road from Bannu city were also approved.
In the energy sector, the project of providing electricity to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa homes through solar energy, Phase I and II, construction of micro-hydel power plants in South Waziristan Lower and 500 kW mini-hydropower station in Karam Shlozan etc. were approved.
Regarding agriculture, the establishment of an agricultural university in Swat, sports-related projects include the upgradation of the football ground of Hayatabad Sports Complex, Peshawar and Qayyum Stadium, Peshawar. Sustainable fisheries and aquaculture initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for agriculture and livestock and expansion of veterinary health services by providing motorcycles to unemployed veterinary graduates were approved. Regarding science and technology, the project of digital governance for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, establishment of Jaban Dargai Public Park in Malakand District and an integrated development package for Janikhel TSD Wazir were also approved.

Meeting with the World Bank on Country Partnership Framework For FY2027-28

A meeting on the World Bank Group Pakistan Country Partnership Framework for FY2027-28 was held to review its strategic direction for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Islam Zaib, the Secretary EAD and the World Bank Country Director attended the meeting along with their teams. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – World Bank proposed pipeline and readiness for the decade was reviewed, with special focus on FY2027-28 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Additional Chief Secretary noted that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is undertaking baseline assessments to quantify expected outcomes and impacts, and added that a digital dashboard is being prepared in IDS, P&DD for tracking and monitoring FFPs.
The framework will support six key country outcomes to guide provincial priorities and resource alignment, focusing on reducing child stunting, reducing learning poverty, increasing resilience to climate change, ensuring cleaner energy and better air quality, mobilizing more public resources for inclusive development, and increasing productive private investment.

Meeting With The World Bank on The Health Portfolio and Strengthening of Primary Health Care

A meeting with the World Bank Group on the Health Portfolio and Strengthening of Primary Health Care was held under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Islam Zaib. The Additional Chief Secretary appreciated the World Bank partnership and highlighted that health is a top priority for the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and remains a key focus area. ACS also stressed the importance of a preventive approach in resource distribution and planning.
World Bank Lead Health Specialist Dr. Sherin Varkey and his team attended the meeting. Current health interventions across the province were reviewed, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Human Capital Investment Project-Health Component and the National Health Support Programme Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Integrated Primary Health Care Programme for Stunting Reduction, which is in pipeline, was also discussed in detail.

The PDWP Meeting Approved 8 Projects Worth More Than Rs 26 Billion

On the special instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, the Provincial Development Working Party meeting approved further improvement of the impact of 8 projects worth more than Rs 26 billion.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islam Zeb, on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by forum members and concerned officers.
The meeting approved the plan to strengthen the mobility, weapons and modern response system of the Counter-Terrorism Department, the establishment of a regional office of the Counter-Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Peshawar and the setup at the district level.
The plan to provide additional educational infrastructure and required facilities in the existing government colleges of the merged districts on the basis of need was also approved in the Provincial Development Working Party meeting. The approval of the project will help in improving educational facilities in the merged districts.
The first phase of the extension of the Monitoring and Evaluation System in the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the construction of the Pilai Kandal and Sanam Dams, and the construction of the Chashma Akhora Khel Dam project in Karak district were also approved.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa City Improvement Project Phase II was also approved in the meeting.

The Additional Chief Secretary appreciated the progress made so far and stressed on ensuring the desired progress in the current financial year.
He said that these projects are for the welfare of the people and it is necessary that the people be kept informed about all the steps that are being taken for their benefit.

P&D Department Organized E-Khuli Kachhari To Redress Public Grievances

On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organized an “e-Khali Kachhari” today.
The e-Khali Kachhari was attended by the Secretary of the Planning and Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Adeel Shah and other officers.
The session was well attended by the public. The questions of all the participants were answered and the complaints were heard online on the spot. Necessary instructions were also issued to the concerned officers for the immediate redressal of the complaints.
The Secretary Planning and Development highlighted the welfare initiatives of the department. He appreciated the suggestions received from the public and said that they will be considered and included in the policy formulation and concrete steps will be taken in this regard.
